Capability Frameworks

When organisations recognise the need to improve the performance of their teams and individual personnel, it can be daunting to determine where to invest L&D spend. Part of the problem can be identifying where skills and knowledge gaps lay.

Developing or refining a Capability Framework can help you answer this question.

A Capability Framework defines the behaviours, skills and knowledge your staff need to achieve optimal success in their roles, uplifting their performance and the performance of the business as a whole. Capabilities can be measured across multiple levels of proficiency. Having a Capability Framework in place can help your organisation determine appropriate performance and training measures and assist individual employees in understanding exactly what is required for them to do their job.

In summary, a Capability Framework helps:

  • Develop or refine PDs
  • Refine the recruitment process
  • Improve the performance management process
  • Identify skills gaps, which can then be addressed through L&D opportunities
  • Improve the quality of service provided to your internal and external customers
  • Reduce uncertainty experienced by your employees regarding their role performance
  • Improve overall business performance
  • Identify career progression opportunities, including potential leaders.

Your organisation may already have a Capability Framework in place. As businesses evolve, the need for change within teams and individual roles can arise. It is precisely this reason why it is useful to have a professional with experience in designing these frameworks to review your business needs to provide advice regarding any areas for improvement.

To develop this framework, Zena Consulting’s experts will consult with you to understand any concerns your management team might have about the business’s or its teams’ performance. We will identify opportunities for improvement by identifying any skills or knowledge gaps.

As the Chief Operations Officer and Head of Product at DeakinCo. (part of Deakin University), Asheley provided oversight of product design, which included the development of capability frameworks mapped to industry standards to meet industry workplace requirements. In addition, Charlynn possesses extensive knowledge in the application of Capability Frameworks, particularly in relation to education, IT, information systems and emerging technologies.

After the initial meeting, Zena Consulting will discuss its findings and work in collaboration with you to create a Capability Framework linked to the requirements of each role within the business. We will assist you in applying the framework, providing our expertise by guiding you through the process.
